As software becomes more woven into our interactions with others, it is important that the people using the software maintain agency and have transparency over the how it’s designed and control over their data in the software.

That is the purpose and promise of the free software movement. We think it is a powerful idea. It’s the reason why we’d like to help more people learn about free software and join the global community of free software users, builders and everyone in-between.

Using software is more like joining a community or finding a place to rent/buy/build a home than it is like buying a new shirt.
